Government Chief Whip, Hamson Obua, has announced that NRM Members of Parliament have agreed to support the UPDF Amendment Bill as presented by the Attorney General.
According to Obua, the decision was made during a special caucus meeting with President Museveni at State House Entebbe.
The bill, which will be tabled for its second reading in Parliament today, is expected to be passed into law.
After parliamentary approval, President Gen Yoweri Museveni is anticipated to sign the bill, which would then become law.
Sources indicate that the President is likely to expedite the signing process.
The proposed legislation has sparked concern among the opposition, who fear it will be used to weaken their movement ahead of the general elections in January 2026.
If passed, the bill would grant military courts jurisdiction to try civilians, including supporters of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
