A new political party, People Power Front (PPF), was unveiled in Kampala today, bearing a striking resemblance to the country’s leading opposition party, National Unity Platform (NUP).
The PPF’s slogan, symbol, and iconic red berets are identical to those of NUP, raising eyebrows among political observers.
According to Hajj Musa Misango, who claims to be the PPF chairman, the party was registered in August 2024.
Other key figures in the party include Spartan Mukagyi as secretary-general and Robert Rutaro as Central region chairman.
However, when contacted to verify the registration of PPF, the Electoral Commission’s spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi, expressed uncertainty and promised to confirm the details before providing a response.
NUP, led by Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), has been a dominant force in the opposition.
The emergence of PPF, with its similar branding and ideology, may raise questions about the intentions of its founders and the potential for confusion among voters.
It’s worth noting that the Electoral Commission had previously rejected an application by Dr. Kizza Besigye’s People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) due to similarities with existing party names and symbols.
