Kampala, Uganda – The National Unity Platform (NUP) has categorically denied claims made by President Museveni’s advisor, Jenifer Fulfigure, that the party abandoned its freed political prisoners.
A video circulating online, featuring Museveni’s agent Full Figure, alleged that upon release, the former prisoners were chased away from NUP offices.
However, NUP has termed these claims as false and misleading.
According to NUP, as soon as they learned of the prisoners’ release, they were invited to the party offices, where they were warmly received by the Secretary General.
The party further provided them with transportation and refreshments, and each individual received financial assistance to return to their respective homes.
NUP has expressed disappointment, though not surprise, at the regime’s attempts to manipulate the former prisoners into spreading false information.
The party has warned that such actions often end in regrettable consequences, citing historical examples.
NUP has reiterated its commitment to supporting its comrades, while acknowledging the limitations of competing with the regime’s vast resources.
The party has wished those who choose to join the regime “luck” in their future endeavors.
This development comes amidst ongoing tensions between NUP and the ruling regime, with NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, having announced his candidacy against President Museveni in the 2026 elections.
