Mubende NUP Councilor Under Fire for Holding Museveni T-Shirt at Liberation Celebration

In a surprising turn of events, Kyeyune David, a councilor from Kasaana Ward in Mubende municipality, was spotted holding a yellow T-shirt with President Museveni’s photo on it during the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) 39th liberation day celebrations, held at National Teacher’s college (NTC) in Mubende district.

What’s more astonishing is that Kyeyune David is a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), a leading opposition party in Uganda.

The NRM has been in power for 39 years, and the opposition has consistently criticized the government for allegedly rigging elections.

In 2021, NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, claimed he won the presidential election, but the electoral commission declared Museveni the winner.

When questioned about the incident, Kyeyune David stated that he attended the celebration because the organizers had rented 100 chairs from his business.

However, he failed to explain why he was holding the NRM T-shirt.

The NUP has remained silent on the matter, sparking speculation about Kyeyune David’s actions.

As Uganda prepares for general elections next year, politicians are increasingly making unexpected moves, leaving voters surprised and confused.

It’s worth noting that President Museveni has made efforts to reconcile with opposition members in the past.

For instance, he pardoned 19 NUP supporters who were convicted of treason and unlawful possession of ammunition.

However, the significance of Kyeyune David’s actions remains unclear, and the NUP’s silence on the matter has only added to the intrigue.
