Mubende Municipality is poised for a significant shift in its political landscape, with Ismael Ssegawa, alias Sureman Ssegawa, gaining considerable momentum and support from the local community.
Ssegawa, known for his vibrant personality and contributions to Mubende’s growth, is vying for the Member of Parliament seat on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
Ssegawa’s popularity stems from his extensive charity work, including donating mother kits to pregnant mothers, donating books to primary schools and success cards to students in P7, S4, and Senior 6.
His annual Nva Mubende Festival has become a staple event, showcasing local talent and celebrating Mubende’s cultural diversity.
In his bid for the parliamentary seat, Ssegawa emphasizes the need for change in leadership, citing poor service delivery despite his efforts and those of others to support the community.
“We have been doing it all, but our people still don’t get the services they deserve due to poor leaders,” Ssegawa said, highlighting his motivation for joining politics.
He chose NUP because it stands with the people, and its strength comes from the people, aligning with his own philosophy.
Ssegawa’s competitors include Bob Richard Kyamanywa, who contested for the Mubende Municipality MP seat on the NUP ticket in the 2021 elections but didn’t win, and Sumayah Nabawanuka, who ran for the Woman MP Mubende district in the 2021 elections on the NUP card but also didn’t succeed.

This gives Ssegawa an advantage, being fresh in the race and having contributed significantly to Mubende.
NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, has advised party members to build their groundwork, allowing the people to decide who deserves the party’s card.
Ssegawa has done just that, touring villages across Mubende Municipality with a message of change, earning appreciation for promoting Mubende’s image.
Ssegawa’s Agenda:
- Education: Enhancing educational infrastructure and services
- Healthcare: Improving healthcare services and facilities
- Infrastructure: Developing infrastructure to support economic growth
- Local Talent: Promoting local talent in sports, music, drama, and dance
As the 2026 general elections approach, Ssegawa’s bid could potentially mark a historic shift in Mubende Municipality’s political allegiance from NRM to NUP.
With his agenda focusing on improving service delivery and promoting local talent, Ssegawa is rallying Mubendeans to support his candidacy, promising a fresh approach to leadership.
