Mityana District Woman Member of Parliament, Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa, has confirmed she will be nominated as an independent candidate on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, for the upcoming general elections.
Ntwatwa, who has been in parliament for one term, was denied the party ticket by her party, which instead awarded it to Proscovia Mukisa alias Nabbosa.
Ntwatwa had previously announced her decision to run as an independent candidate, citing continued support from the people of Mityana.
She expressed her gratitude to the people of Mityana for their continued support.
Ntwatwa emphasized her commitment to serving the people of Mityana, saying that she would work tirelessly to address the challenges facing the district.
The decision to run as an independent candidate comes after Ntwatwa’s party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), awarded the party ticket to Proscovia Mukisa alias Nabbosa.
The Mityana woman MP race is shaping up to be a closely contested one, with Ntwatwa set to face off against Proscovia Mukisa (NUP) and Judith Nabakooba (NRM).
The election is expected to be a keenly watched contest, with voters set to decide on the leadership of the district.
Ntwatwa’s campaign is likely to focus on her track record in parliament, where she has championed various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women and children in Mityana.
