Kampala, Uganda – In a move set to send shockwaves through Uganda’s political establishment, Mathias Mpuuga has announced the birth of the Democratic Alliance (DA), a new political force poised to challenge the status quo.

“Today we’re here to announce the birth of the Democratic Alliance (DA),” Mpuuga declared. “I saw someone recently saying that when he looks at himself, he sees [former Prime Minister] Ben Kiwanuka… What an insult!”

Mpuuga took aim at the current state of politics in Uganda, lamenting the fact that one person, President Kaguta Museveni, has been at the helm of the state for 40 years.

“Many of you have been waiting to hear what next for Mpuuga after NUP. One single person Kaguta Museveni has been at the helm of the state for 40 years. I’m 49 years. He came to power when I was in primary school. It’s a shame!”

Mpuuga also expressed frustration with the opposition’s lack of action. “We have fought for so long… There’s no sign that there’s light at the end of the tunnel… Imagine Kizza Besigye is in prison but the leading opposition party in the country is in slumber. The last time I checked, the leader of that group is busy planning a concert.”

The Democratic Alliance, according to Mpuuga, will front political candidates, including presidential contenders, in the next months.

“In the next months, our alliance will front political candidates, including presidential contenders. Please join us… I will give you time as I promised and I have started.”

Mpuuga invited Ugandans to join him in the struggle for a better country, emphasizing the need to put aside infighting and unite against a common enemy.

“I’m here to invite you to join me in the struggle for a better country. We have lost a lot of time fighting each other, backbiting each other, instead of fighting a common enemy.”
