Kirumbi Primary is a government owned school in the down sides of Mubende district on the boarder with kasanda district and it’s used by more than five Parishes in kalonga subcounty.
Last year they seated 31 students, only two students could pass the third grade in the Primary leaving examinations. This fueled hanger over the parents that have been quite for years with some changing schools for their juniors.
However, also they put blame on teachers at the school who are not interested in doing their job instead minding other businesses around the school.
It’s said that Female teachers engage in dating young Men around the area and start competing with their students.
This is supported by Muhuye Twaha a father to one of the 2024 candidates who names withdrawn.
Twaha says that his children were psychologically tortured by a female teacher at kirumbi primary school who was one of the primary seven teachers who used to throw her books whenever she took work for marking.
“I had that my child got indisciplined on allegations of falling in love with a boy in the area but it’s said that there was a teacher at the same school who loved him too, when the teacher found out, she refused to go back to class to teach saying that she can not teach her co-wife”. Twaha said
The matter reached the school management committee for possible resolutions and according to Johson Byaruhanga a member of the committee, said the matter was resolved and the teacher returned to the class.
However, the parent, Twaha Muhuye, says the manner in which the matter was handled was not a masculine one as teachers and the committee showed their support for the teacher.
He explained that every time her daughter took the books to the teacher’s office for marking, she threw her books away which caused her to do poorly in her grade 7 exams.
“The committee, it’s true resolved the issue though they showed that the child was her fault which I think was unfair they should all get the same punishment”. he remarked
“My daughter is among those who sat for the PLE exams and got 32 but I believe due to the way the school registered failures my daughter is wise to be in the third grade because of her experiences if it wasn’t that, she would have done even better”. he added
Muhuye Twaha was once a former private teacher at kirumbi primary school but he blames the District education authorities for treating the school as a punishment destination for those who commit crimes.
“The teachers who are sent here, all of them first fail where they are, and then they are sent here as punishment which is one of the reasons why our school is backward” he said.
Other parents puts blame on the government’s policies that doesn’t allow students to pay even a single coin for the betternes of their schools yet most of the equipment comes rate at schools here poor performances.
“You find when the school management committee agree to put some amount of money for parents to pay for service, they rush to authorities saying that the government said no parent should pay even a single coin yet the services are not there and then you find a school in miserable zone”. one of the parents said.
Parents say teachers are not paying attention to students which has led to deteriorating education.
However, Twaha Lwamiti, who acts as the Headteacher of the school, blames the problem on the lack of teachers that leads to poor performance.
By Tuesday the second week of the beginning of term one 2025 pupils at kirumbi primary school had not seen the teacher in class and as we reported this story the school had only three teachers and pupils were cleaning the compound others preparing classes from where they left it during the closer of the third term 2024.
Reaching The Mubende District Education Officer Asaph Kabunga said they had already sent teachers to the school with their transfer letters to replace those that they had transferred from kirumbi to other schools and warned that those who may be late will be punished that all teachers should not hesitate to go to the schools where they are sent.
Kabunga added that the issue of students fighting with teachers for men is common in schools but however much such situations happen alot especially when people are with adults they don’t publish it in media.
The Kirumbi primary school has six teachers and more than 400 Pupils however their hope for getting first grades and passing is limited due to the above problems mentioned by parents.
It is alleged that kirumbi primary school has taken decades without getting first grades from there upbrought pupils and now parents needs improvement.
