A tragic accident has claimed the life of Maxwell Kuwembula Mugude, the LC5 Chairperson of Kamuli District.
The incident occurred this morning along the Kayunga-Kampala road, specifically at the Ministry of Water and Environment office in Nakifuma.
According to police, Kuwembula was driving his Toyota Hilux Double Cabin (UG 699M) from Kampala to Kamuli when he rammed into a stationary truck (UBR 835K) driven by an unknown driver who fled the scene.
The LC5 Chairperson died on the spot, and his body was found trapped in the wreckage.
The police responded promptly and are currently conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Kuwembula’s body is currently at the St Francis Nagalama Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem.
It’s reported that Kuwembula was returning from Kampala, where he had gone to the NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo to pick nomination papers.
This incident marks the second time a Kamuli LC5 Chairperson has died in an accident while in office.
In 2004, Isabirye Baligeya Kalori, the then district boss, perished in an accident along the Jinja-Kamuli road.
The police investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the situation unfolds.
