The Gaza Strip is bearing the brunt of Israel’s escalated attacks, with at least 52 Palestinians killed, including 36 in Gaza City, where Israel is preparing for a broader offensive.
The attacks have been condemned by the international community, with concerns growing over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
According to medical sources, an Israeli air strike hit a school in Sheikh Radwan, a Gaza City neighborhood, killing at least 12 civilians who were seeking shelter in makeshift tents.
Footage circulating on social media shows an Israeli quadcopter hovering over a building before dropping an explosive, resulting in a massive smoke plume.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, warned that Gaza City would be “destroyed” unless Hamas yields to Israel’s terms for ending the war.
Katz stated that “the gates of hell will soon open on the heads of Hamas’ murderers and rapists in Gaza – until they agree to Israel’s conditions for ending the war.” These conditions include the release of all captives and Hamas’s complete disarmament.
However, Hamas has rejected disarmament without the creation of a Palestinian state, while agreeing to a ceasefire proposal brokered by Qatar and Egypt.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that he will authorize a major operation to seize Gaza City, potentially starting within days.
The situation on the ground is dire, with Al Jazeera correspondent Tareq Abu Azzoum describing the scene as “unbearable grief and pain”.
Abu Azzoum reported that Israeli attacks are relentless across the Gaza Strip, with no corner spared from potential attacks.
In addition to the fatalities, several aid seekers have been killed, including one Palestinian who was shot near the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza. Since May 27, at least 2,036 aid seekers have been killed, according to the Health Ministry.
The death toll in Gaza has been rising steadily, with over 62,000 people killed and 157,114 injured since October 2023.
