Mubende District, Uganda – In a significant boost to healthcare services in the region, the Gayaza Health Centre III has been officially commissioned.
The facility’s general ward and maternity ward were launched on Tuesday 01-04-2025, marking a major milestone in improving healthcare infrastructure in Mubende District.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by Hon. Kabanda David, Member of Parliament for Kasambya County, Hon. Grania Nakazibwe, Woman MP for Mubende District, Hon. Muhereza Ntambi Micheal, LCV Chairman, and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), among other dignitaries.
The project, valued at 614,371,776 UGX, comprises a general ward, maternity ward, pediatrician ward, male ward, female ward, 4 stance lined pit latrine and bathroom, placenta pit, delivery room, records, kangaroo room, postnatal care room, and rubbish pit.
However, it’s worth noting that the total sum of 1,456,423,332 UGX is for all three projects commissioned yesterday, not just the general ward/maternity ward.
The other two projects include the construction of a two-unit multipurpose science laboratory block at Lubimbiri secondary school, worth 342,051,556 UGX, and the construction of the Kasambya Skilling center at Nsambya – Kasambya town council, worth 500,000,000 UGX.
Deputy RDC Birungi Abubaker thanked the leaders for their lobbying initiative, which has enabled the residents to benefit from various programs.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the health and education sectors by providing necessary funds to enhance service delivery.
While Hon. Kabanda David expressed gratitude to the NRM Government for the new facility, emphasizing its importance in improving healthcare services in the region, others are calling for transparency and accountability in the project’s procurement and implementation processes.
Hon. Muhereza Ntambi Micheal, LCV Chairman, noted, “This facility is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our people. We are confident that it will have a positive impact on the lives of our community members.”
Hon. Grania Nakazibwe, Woman MP for Mubende District, added, “As leaders, we have a responsibility to ensure that our people have access to quality healthcare services. This facility is a step in the right direction, and we will continue to advocate for more investments in our healthcare sector.”

However, the hefty price tag has raised eyebrows among some stakeholders, who are questioning whether the facility’s cost is justified.
“We appreciate the government’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure, but we need to ensure that taxpayers’ money is being used efficiently,” said a local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous. “We hope that the facility will provide quality services to our community, justifying the significant investment made.”
