Kasanda District, Uganda – A disturbing incident has led to a manhunt for five teachers of Praise Nursery and Primary School, located in Kalagala Village, Kijuna Sub-county, Kasanda District.
The teachers are accused of brutally assaulting an 11-year-old Primary Four pupil, Ssempiira Deus, on November 5th.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when the pupil failed to complete assigned work given by his class teacher, identified as Franko. When questioned, the boy explained that he didn’t have a book, which allegedly angered the teacher.
Franko is said to have dragged the child out of class and, with the help of four other teachers, beat him severely.

The victim managed to escape and went home, where his grandmother noticed he was sitting uncomfortably.
Upon inquiry, she learned about the assault and found severe bruises on the boy’s buttocks. The incident was reported to the village vice-chairperson, who forwarded it to the Mineral Protection Unit Police.
The District Police Commander (DPC) dispatched a team to investigate, and the case is now being handled by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Kasanda.
The five teachers are currently on the run, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
“The hunt is on. We want these teachers brought to police for questioning and possibly charged in court,” said Wamala region police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi.
“Punishment is not outlawed, but it must be reasonable. If a child does something wrong, teachers can correct them, but the punishment should never be brutal.”
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The community is shaken by the incident, and many are calling for action to prevent similar cases in the future.
As the search for the teachers continues, police are reminding the public that child abuse will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will face the full force of the law.
