Mityana, Uganda – In a distressing turn of events, seven Senior Four students from Bismarck High School in Mityana municipality have been denied the opportunity to sit for their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams due to the alleged actions of their school director, Ssemakula Henry.
The students claim that Ssemakula collected UGX 1,890,000 (UGX 270,000 each) in April for registration fees, assuring them that they would be registered under Kalangaalo Secondary School.
However, it has emerged that the director failed to fulfill this promise, reportedly using the funds for personal gain.
The students, who were supposed to sit for their exams starting today, are now facing an uncertain academic future, potentially having to wait another year to sit for the exams.
The Uganda Police has launched a manhunt for Ssemakula, who is wanted for questioning over allegations of theft and fraudulent activities.
Rachael Kawala, the police spokesperson for Wamala region, has urged parents to exercise caution when selecting schools for their children and appealed to school administrators to prioritize their students’ welfare.
This highlights the need for stricter oversight in Uganda’s education sector, ensuring that students’ interests are protected and their futures are not compromised by unscrupulous individuals.
