A devastating road crash has claimed the lives of 10 people, including the driver, and left three others injured in Bugiri District.

The accident occurred today, December 10, 2025, at around 7:00 am at Busowa Town Council along the Busia Highway.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the crash involved motor vehicle UBN 817H (Toyota Hiace) and a trailer UA 647BA/UA 430AA.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of the Toyota Hiace attempted to overtake an unidentified vehicle but lost control and rammed into a stationary trailer while trying to avoid a head-on collision.

“The impact killed ten people on the spot, including the driver and left three others with injuries. All the deceased and injured were occupants of the Toyota Hiace,” said SP Kananura Michael, CLO, Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety.

The police team responded promptly, rushing the survivors to hospital and conveying the bodies of the deceased to the same hospital mortuary. Investigations into the crash have commenced.

“We urge all motorists to desist from reckless road behaviour, including speeding and unsafe overtaking, which continue to be major causes of crashes on our roads. Drivers are reminded to exercise maximum caution and prioritise safety at all times,” SP Kananura appealed.

The police will continue to investigate the cause of the crash and take necessary actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
