In a significant breakthrough, Uganda Police has busted a criminal gang terrorizing the Kampala Metropolitan South area, making several arrests and recovering a cache of weapons and stolen goods.
The operation, carried out on August 11, 2024, targeted a gang notorious for using pangas to commit crimes.
Four suspects have been apprehended so far, including Sekibuule Bakari, 25, Kyeyune Robert, 21, Ssemanda Kadiidi, 23, and Mayanja Hakim, 32.
Bakari, a resident of Bunamwaya Ngobe village, was arrested in Nateete and has confessed to being part of another gang with members named Robert, Boy, Dube, Hakim, and Muzamir.
Kyeyune Robert was arrested in Jeza along Mityana Road, while Ssemanda Kadiidi was taken into custody in Bujuuko with a bag containing burglary tools, including master keys and a hood for concealing his face.
Mayanja Hakim was arrested after a search at a rented house in Gogonya B zone, Bulenga A parish, Wakiso District, which was being used as a storage facility by the gang.
The search recovered various items, including pangas, sharp knives, burglary tools, and stolen goods such as wall-mounted TV stands and a PlayStation remote.
The arrests and recoveries have dealt a significant blow to the criminal gang, and police are optimistic that the operation will lead to a reduction in crime in the area.
The Uganda Police Force has commended the public for their cooperation and urged anyone with information about the gang’s activities to come forward.
The suspects are currently in custody and will face charges related to criminal trespass, theft, and possession of prohibited items.
