– National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has met with party leaders from the Western Regions of Uganda, where he praised their unwavering commitment to the cause.
The meeting, held in Fort Portal, brought together NUP leaders from the regions of Tooro, Bunyoro, Ankole, Rwenzori, and Kigezi.
According to Bobi Wine, the gathering was a testament to the party’s strength and resilience in the face of challenges.
“I am extremely impressed by their enthusiasm and passion,” Bobi Wine said. “We discussed commitment, resilience, and faith in the face of so many challenges and obstacles.”
Despite the heavy police and military deployment in the region, the NUP leaders showed up in large numbers, demonstrating their determination to the party’s ideals.
Bobi Wine commended their dedication, saying it was a clear indication of their commitment to the cause.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the party’s structures in the Western Region and to reaffirm the leaders’ commitment to the party’s mission.
With Uganda gearing up for general elections in early 2026, NUP is positioning itself to challenge the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, which has been in power under President Yoweri Museveni for over 40 years.
Bobi Wine’s NUP has been at the forefront of the opposition movement, pushing for democratic reforms and good governance.
The party’s growing popularity has posed a significant threat to the NRM’s dominance, and the upcoming elections are expected to be a crucial test of the party’s strength.
The NUP leader’s tour of the region is seen as a crucial step in mobilizing support and galvanizing the party’s base ahead of the elections.
With its message of change and reform, NUP is confident of making significant gains in the polls and potentially altering the country’s political landscape.
