The arrest comes after a viral video emerged showing Lukwago brutally attacking his son, wrapping him in a mosquito net, and hanging him from a tree.

According to Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the incident occurred in Butabira village, Namabu ward, Nyenga Division, in Buikwe District.

Rusoke said that Lukwago had left his son alone in their village home for nearly a month while he stayed with a concubine in Mbiko cell.

During this time, the boy sought food at a nearby church and lived with an uncle identified as Isma in Butembe village.

Rusoke said, when Lukwago returned to the Butabira house and found his son missing after being returned, he brutally attacked the boy, wrapping him in a mosquito net and then mercilessly lashed him with canes, inflicting severe injuries.

Lukwago is facing charges related to child abuse and will be arraigned before court soon.

The police spokesperson commended the public for sharing the video, which led to Lukwago’s swift arrest.

Public condemned Lukwago’s actions, calling for harsh punishment for him.

There’s need for increased protection and support for vulnerable children because child abuse in Uganda is growing.
