The Uganda Electoral Commission has nullified the nomination of Abedican Mercy Rebbecca, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Nebbi District.
This decision leaves Phiona Nyamutooro, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, unopposed for the seat.
According to a letter signed by Simon Byabakama Muguenyi, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, the nullification was based on a complaint lodged with the commission.

The complaint alleged that Abedican Mercy Rebbecca presented signatures of Ongiera Godfrey and Bediic Jimmy as supporters of her nomination.
However, both Godfrey and Jimmy denied signing her nomination papers, stating they are NRM supporters and would not support an NUP candidate.
The Electoral Commission found that Abedican Mercy Rebbecca failed to provide satisfactory evidence to rebut the claims made by Godfrey and Jimmy.
Additionally, she did not meet the requirement of having a minimum of ten persons registered in Nebbi Electoral District support her nomination as per Section 28(1)(c) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177.

As a result, the decision of the Returning Officer for Nebbi District was reversed, and Phiona Nyamutooro is to be declared elected unopposed as Woman Member of Parliament for Nebbi District.
