Patriotism: Why all Ugandans should rally behind Hellen Seku

By Jamil Kazibwe

SINCE gaining independence and way back before, Ugandans have been claiming that their country is the best dubbing it the Pearl of Africa. This is not based on facts such as high income levels, though, but there is a common belief that Uganda is the most beautiful country (naturally) in the entire world and thus basis for the growth of patriotism.

Though over the decades, political ideas have been playing a major role in the development of Uganda, the best ideology that unites Ugandans is PATRIOTISM, cutting across divides and an in-born oddity adopted naturally. Patriotism is simply a celebration of love for the country encompassing a range of sentiments, appreciating our bordered land and lifestyle as well as commitment to individual responsibility plus civic duty.

Since independence, patriotism in Uganda has evolved as the country grows but with hope that there is a brighter future ahead of us from generation to generation. This is a journey that the National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps under the headship of Ms Hellen Seku is treading.

President Yoweri Museveni appointed Seku on September 12, 2023 replacing Brig. Patrick Mwesigye. Her vision revolves around inclusivity and empowerment where every citizen should feel valued, heard and actively contributing towards the progress of Uganda.

Uganda being a diverse nation needs to rally behind Seku for a stronger and united nation especially among the youth who need such ideological orientation via development programmes. This calls for everyone’s involvement to achieve the best for Uganda by devoting our efforts towards a corrupt-free and a step ahead geared for economic, political and social growth.

The heroes of our independence did well. Freedom fighters played their role. It’s now the rest of us (Ugandans) to ignite the strength and resilience of our nation. The road we should now be walking is Patriotic, fostering unity beyond individual accomplishments but a collective embrace of national achievements.

To achieve this, we should rally behind Commissioner Hellen Seku to encounter national challenges and drive innovation, ensuring the continued progress of Uganda.
