– A tragic incident has shaken the Naguru Police Barracks, where a police officer shot and killed his colleague over a debt of Sh100,000.
The incident occurred within the barracks’ premises, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The murdered officer has been identified as Muhangi Arthur, who was attached to the Counter-Terrorism (CT) Tourism Unit and is believed to have been part of the 22nd intake.
Eyewitnesses and early reports indicate that Arthur and the alleged killer officer were roommates.
According to eyewitnesses, a disagreement over the unpaid debt escalated into a fatal confrontation.
In a moment of rage, the killer officer, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, pulled out a gun and shot Arthur dead while he was on the bed before fleeing the scene.
Panic quickly spread through the barracks as residents and fellow officers struggled to make sense of the horrific event.
Sources on the ground reported hearing gunshots from Block D, followed by the sight of the killer officer fleeing the scene. By the time help arrived, Arthur was already dead.
The incident has raised concerns about the living conditions and stressors faced by police officers within the barracks.
Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Uganda Police Force has been urged to take measures to address internal conflicts and provide support to officers to prevent such tragedies in the future.
