Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, who served as Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs since June 2021, has concluded his tenure.
During his three-year stint, Ssempijja made notable contributions to the ministry. One of his key achievements was enhancing training and capacity building for the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Under his leadership, the ministry upgraded training programs, equipping UPDF personnel with modern skills to tackle emerging security challenges.
Ssempijja also prioritized the welfare of UPDF personnel, introducing initiatives to boost their overall well-being.
This included improving living conditions, healthcare, and education opportunities for soldiers and their families.
In addition, Ssempijja strengthened defence diplomacy efforts, fostering strategic partnerships with international counterparts.
This enhanced Uganda’s global security cooperation and reinforced its position as a key player in regional stability.
Furthermore, Ssempijja oversaw the development of a robust defence strategy, ensuring the UPDF’s readiness to respond to emerging security challenges.
His tenure saw significant improvements in strategic planning, enabling the ministry to tackle complex security issues effectively.
New Leadership Takes the Helm
Jacob Markson Oboth, formerly Minister of State for Defence, has succeeded Ssempijja as the new Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs.
Oboth brings a wealth of experience, having served as Deputy Attorney General for Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution and as a state attorney in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
During the transition ceremony at the Ministry’s headquarters, Ssempijja congratulated Oboth and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
Oboth commended Ssempijja’s work, particularly his impact on defence policy and strategy, and pledged to continue building on his predecessor’s achievements.
