Kampala, Uganda – In a move that has sparked controversy, the Uganda Police Force has arrested three women activists affiliated with the Sisterhood Chain, a local advocacy ggroup
The activists were detained on Friday afternoon while staging a demonstration on Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road.
“We are tired of the double standards,” said one of the activists. “If ordinary citizens are arrested for posting on social media, why should Gen. Muhoozi be exempt from the law?”
The protesters claimed that their demonstration was aimed at highlighting the selective application of the law against social media users, particularly those aligned with the opposition.
They alleged that individuals critical of the government are often arrested for expressing their views online, while others, including high-ranking officials like Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, seem to face no consequences for similar actions.
“It’s not about freedom of speech, it’s about fairness,” another activist said. “We want to see the law applied equally to all, regardless of one’s position or affiliation.”
The activists argue that Gen. Muhoozi’s social media statements have sparked controversy, and they are demanding equal application of the law.
The protesters claim that several individuals have been arrested for speaking out online, while Gen. Muhoozi continues to make statements without facing consequences.
The three activists are currently being held at Wandegeya Police Station. The circumstances surrounding their arrest and potential charges are yet to be clarified.
“We will continue to speak out against injustice and demand accountability from our leaders,” one of the activists said, before being led away by police.
