Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of State, took part in the Mediators Planning Retreat on Sudan in Djibouti, which included representatives from 32 countries and various regional and international organizations.

The meeting focused on international initiatives and efforts to establish peace in Sudan and develop a unified vision.

In his opening speech, Sheikh Shakhboot emphasized the immediate need to stop the violence and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery.

He stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to find effective solutions to help Sudan overcome its ongoing challenges.

The UAE Minister of State highlighted the critical situation faced by the Sudanese people, including a worsening humanitarian crisis and the imminent threat of famine.

He called for increased diplomatic and humanitarian efforts from the international community to address the conflict and its humanitarian impact, providing an urgent and coordinated response to the needs of the Sudanese population.

Sheikh Shakhboot also outlined the tangible actions taken by the UAE to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and neighboring countries. He emphasized the UAE leadership’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and relief aid.

Since the conflict began in Sudan in April 2023, the UAE has provided US$245 million in aid and established two field hospitals in Chad to support displaced Sudanese and the local population.

Sheikh Shakhboot reaffirmed the UAE’s support for efforts to de-escalate tensions, end the crisis, and promote a consensual political path between Sudanese parties.

He reiterated the UAE’s firm stance on the conflict, calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to violence.

He emphasized that there is no military solution and underscored the importance of the warring parties working towards a peaceful resolution through dialogue.
