A devastating crime has shaken the community of Mityana, Uganda, after the lifeless body of 6-year-old Nabbosa Nakiyingi Irene was discovered in a cassava garden on January 1, 2025.
The young victim, a pupil at Sonko Joy Primary School, had left her parents’ home in Zigoti East on December 31, 2024, to deliver mangoes to her teacher but never returned.

Unfortunately, the worst fears were confirmed when the body was found at around 4:00 pm on January 1, 2025. The police suspect that the deceased may have been defiled before being killed.
“The territorial police in Mityana are actively investigating the murder of Nabbosa Nakiyingi Irene,” said SP Kawala.
“We have arrested one suspect, 32-year-old Ssenjobe Lawrence, to aid in the investigation. We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
The police have visited and documented the crime scene, and relevant statements have been recorded. The body of the deceased has been taken to Mityana Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
