Luwero, Uganda – The Territorial Police in Luwero district have announced the arrest of Okongo Alfred Owona, a 25-year-old security guard, for illegal possession of government ammunition.
Owona was found in possession of four live bullets and is currently being held by authorities as investigations continue.
The incident occurred on January 7, 2026, when Hipos Security Company in Luwero notified police about a suspicious individual attempting to sell ammunition.
Owona, employed by Securex Security Company Limited in Kampala, admitted to stealing the ammunition from a company-issued weapon while guarding the Crown Paper Factory in Kawempe Division.
Police are investigating the theft and attempted sale of the ammunition, urging the public to report suspicious activities involving illegal arms or ammunition.
The arrest highlights the need for heightened security and accountability in handling government stores and firearms.
Authorities assure the public that those involved in such activities will be held accountable, and citizens are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement to prevent the spread of illegal weapons and ensure community safety.
