Kigali, Rwanda – President Paul Kagame has dismissed Major General Martin Nzaramba, former Director of Gabiro School of Infantry, and 20 other senior and junior officers from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), effective immediately.
The dismissal, announced on Friday, did not provide reasons for the removal of Maj. Gen. Nzaramba, 57, and other officers, including Colonel Etienne Uwimana, a radiologist and head of the Medical Imaging Department at the military hospital in Kanombe, Kigali.
This move follows a meeting between President Kagame, also Commander-in-Chief of the RDF, and top military generals to discuss Rwanda’s peace and security priorities.
Maj. Gen. Nzaramba was among the high-ranking officers retired by President Kagame on August 30, 2023, alongside:
Gen. Fred Ibingira, Lt. Gen. Charles Kayonga, Lt. Gen. Frank Mushyo Kamanzi, Maj. Gen. Eric Murokore, Maj. Gen. Augustin Turagara, Maj. Gen. Charles Karamba, Maj. Gen. Albert Murasira, Brig. Gen. Chris Murari, Brig. Gen. Didace Ndahiro, Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Ndahiro

Additionally, President Kagame authorized the dismissal and contract rescission of 195 other RDF ranks.
Maj. Gen. Nzaramba had previously faced controversy in 2008 when the Military Tribunal dismissed defamation charges leveled against him by his then-wife, Captain (rtd) Doreen Kayitesi.
