Rwampara District Woman MP Molly Asiimwe Musiime has withdrawn her candidacy from the 2026 parliamentary race, despite having been nominated as an independent candidate for the same seat.
In a statement made at her home in Rugando, Asiimwe cited the need to promote unity within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Rwampara District as the reason for her decision.
Her withdrawal follows a private meeting with First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni at the Irenga State Lodge in Ntungamo.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, was attended by NRM leaders and other stakeholders. Asiimwe’s decision leaves the race between NRM flag bearer Annah Kansiime and NUP’s Sarah Kinconco.
Kinconco is currently on remand at Mbarara Main Prison after being arrested alongside other NUP supporters who were accompanying NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu en route to Bwizibwera Town in Mbarara District on November 7, 2025.
