Kampala, Uganda – According to trusted sources, President Yoweri Museveni has canceled the appointment of Kakooza Alex as the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
The decision comes after the President realized that Kakooza’s current role as Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to the Vice President is already too demanding, and adding another responsibility would be unsustainable.
Despite initial plans for Kakooza to handle both roles simultaneously, it has become clear that the position of PPS to the VP requires full-time attention.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives has been embroiled in controversy recently, with former Permanent Secretary Geraldine Ssali facing charges of diverting public resources, conspiracy to defraud, and money laundering.
Ssali, who was arrested earlier this month, is accused of irregularly introducing Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society Ltd. for government compensation and making irregular payments amounting to 3.87 billion shillings.
As a result of the President’s decision, Kakooza will retain his current position as PPS to the Vice President, and the President is working with Lucy Nakyobe, Head of Public Service, to find a suitable replacement for the Permanent Secretary role at the Ministry of Trade.
The position requires a dedicated leader to restore stability and integrity to the ministry.
The President’s change of heart means that Nakyobe will now work with the Public Service Commission to identify a new candidate for the Permanent Secretary position, ensuring that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives receives the dedicated leadership it requires.
