    Mityana, Uganda –

Territorial police in Mityana district have concluded their investigation into the arson incident that occurred at Wilton Nursery and Primary School in Mityana Municipality.

According to Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson , the incident happened on October 10, 2024, at approximately 6:00 am at the school’s dormitory in Kyofatogabye cell, East ward, Bisimbi Division.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 10-year-old primary three pupil returned to the dormitory to retrieve his pen while his classmates were attending morning lessons.

The boy discovered a matchbox and, out of curiosity, lit a match and threw it onto a mattress at the corner of the dormitory, igniting a fire that quickly spread.

Fortunately, the timely intervention of teachers and neighbors, who responded to the scene upon seeing smoke, prevented any casualties or injuries.

The police fire brigade and rescue team also swiftly responded to extinguish the fire.

CCCTV footage reviewed by the police confirms the boy’s actions, which are believed to have caused the fire.
