In a welcome relief to residents, Namagogo Village in Mubende District has finally regained power after a three-month outage.

The village, which had been plunged into darkness since September, saw the return of electricity on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

Earlier today, protesters had taken to the streets, blocking the Mubende highway and demanding that something be done to address the power shortage.

In a tense standoff with police, the protesters had issued an ultimatum: if the transformer was not brought to the village by the end of business today, the protests would continue indefinitely.

However, in a swift response to the community’s concerns, Umeme, the national power utility company, delivered a new transformer to the village on Tuesday.

The transformer was installed under the protection of police, who were deployed to the scene to prevent any potential interference from protesters.

Despite the earlier tensions, the installation process was completed smoothly, and power was restored to the area.

Residents, who had grown accustomed to the darkness, expressed their joy and relief at the return of electricity.

“We are thrilled to have power back in our village,” said one resident. “It’s a huge relief, especially during the holiday season.”
