Uganda’s Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has finally spoken out about the disappearance and alleged detention of Dr. Kizza Besigye, a four-time presidential contender.
Dr. Baryomunsi stated that he’s still cross-checking with security agencies and isn’t aware of Dr. Besigye being held by the government.
He emphasized that if Dr. Besigye was arrested, he would be arraigned in court and charged accordingly.
Dr. Besigye reportedly went missing on Saturday in Nairobi, Kenya, where he attended a book launch by former Kenyan Minister for Justice, Martha Karua.
His wife, Winnie Byanyima, claims he’s being held in a military jail in Kampala.
This incident follows the July arrest of 36 Ugandan activists linked to Besigye in Kisumu, Kenya. They were deported, charged with treason, and later released on bail.
