Kampala, Uganda – The teachers and non-teaching staff of Kampala Parents School have agreed to call off their sit-down strike, which began last week, after meeting with various stakeholders, including businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, whose Ruparelia Group owns the school.
The staff had downed their tools in protest of low pay and alleged unequal treatment by the school management.
However, after a series of meetings with Ruparelia and other stakeholders, the staff have agreed to resume teaching tomorrow.
The decision to call off the strike was made after the staff and management agreed on a number of issues, including a review of the staff’s salaries and benefits.
The staff had been demanding better pay and working conditions, citing the high cost of living in Kampala and the need for a fairer compensation package.
The Ruparelia Group, which owns Kampala Parents School, has promised to address the staff’s concerns and work towards improving their working conditions.
The group has also pledged to maintain open communication channels with the staff to prevent similar disputes in the future.
The strike had caused concern among parents and students, who were worried about the impact on the school’s academic calendar.
However, with the strike now called off, classes are expected to resume tomorrow, and the school is expected to return to normal.
