Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, held a crucial meeting with vendors and stakeholders of Nateete Market today to address ongoing disputes over market operations and ownership.
The engagement comes after the market’s private owner issued a 30-day ultimatum to vendors to vacate the premises, citing plans for redevelopment.
During the meeting, Lord Mayor Lukwago assured vendors that no eviction would occur until a fair and inclusive solution is reached.
He announced that a special meeting is scheduled for early next week, bringing together all stakeholders, including the private claimants, to discuss the longstanding compensation and market ownership concerns that have been outstanding since 2017.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including CEC Members Hon. Olive Namazzi and Hon. Kizza Hakim Saula, Mayor Mberaze of Rubaga Division, Area Councillors, and other stakeholders.
Lord Mayor Lukwago’s intervention has provided temporary relief to the vendors, who have been anxious about their future in the market.
The upcoming meeting aims to find a lasting solution to the dispute, taking into account the interests of all parties involved.
The vendors have expressed hope that the meeting will lead to a fair resolution, allowing them to continue operating in the market without fear of eviction.
