Kampala, Uganda – In a shocking and disturbing turn of events, Joseph Ssekyanzi, a resident of Kawempe Division, kidnapped his 4-year-old daughter, Angel, and demanded a hefty 50 million shilling ransom from her mother, Desire Tamale, following their breakup.
The incident unfolded on August 26 when Angel went missing, leaving her mother frantic with worry. Initial fears pointed to the notorious Kampala traffic or potential child abduction. However, investigations led police to a surprising culprit: Angel’s own father.
According to police reports, Ssekyanzi had been struggling to cope with the breakup and resorted to drastic measures to exact revenge and financial gain.
“He couldn’t handle the separation and thought kidnapping his own daughter would somehow resolve the issue or punish the mother,” said Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
On September 2, Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed Ssekyanzi’s involvement and launched a manhunt. Following intense pressure, Ssekyanzi released Angel unharmed, and she was reunited with her relieved mother.
Ssekyanzi is now facing severe legal consequences for kidnapping, a serious crime punishable under Ugandan law.
“This case highlights the devastating consequences of unhealthy relationships and the importance of seeking help when needed,” said Owoyesigyire.
The police urge anyone experiencing relationship difficulties to seek counseling and support from law enforcement and community resources.
“Kidnapping, especially involving one’s own child, is never an acceptable solution. We will vigorously pursue justice for Angel and her mother,” Owoyesigyire added.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to ensure Ssekyanzi faces the full force of the law.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern, with many calling for greater awareness and support for families struggling with relationship issues.
