No fewer than 17 people have been killed by bandits in three communities in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State in Nigeria.
About 38 others were also said to have been abducted when the bandits invaded the communities on Saturday morning.
Aminu Khalid, a former councillor said the affected communities include, Ungwan Sako, Kunkurai and Dokan Kaji communities in Dawaki Ward of Kauru LGA.
In a telephone interview, Khalid said, the bandits operated for about six hours during which 17 people were killed and 38 others were abducted.
According to him, the bandits had initially abducted 58 people, but 20 of the victims were rescued when the villagers engaged the bandits in a fierce battle, adding that nine of the villagers were killed in the process.
However, in a reaction, Spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, said several contacts had been made with the said communities, but there was no confirmation of the incident.
“It is not true, there was nothing like that because we have made contacts in the affected communities,” the police spokesperson said in a telephone interview.
