The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mama Janet Museveni has hailed the Ruparelia Group for the commendable job of constructing a world class conference centre in time to host the Non-Aligned Movement Summit that is currently ongoing and the upcoming G77+China Summit.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the Ruparelia Group for their commendable work in preparing the Convention Centre for these Summits. Their attention to detail and level of preparedness is truly praiseworthy,” Mama Janet wrote on her official X handle early today.

The comments follow her recent visit to the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo that was constructed in a record 13 months by business mogul Sudhir Ruparelia.

“However, I want to emphasise the importance of maintaining these high standards. It is crucial to conduct continuous checks on all amenities, ensuring they remain in excellent working condition not only during the Summits but also in the future,” she advised.

“This visit reaffirmed our commitment to hosting successful international events, showcasing the best of what Uganda has to offer, and ensuring that every guest experiences the warmth and hospitality for which our nation is known,” she added.

The 19th NAM Summit is currently ongoing at Munyonyo. NAM membership consists of 120 countries- 53 from Africa, 39 from Asia, 26 from Latin America and the Caribbean and two from Europe. It is convened to discuss shared agendas and promote diplomatic collaboration among nations not aligned with major global blocks.
