Fred Tumwesigye has officially been nominated as an independent candidate for the Member of Parliament position representing Buwekula South Constituency in Mubende district.
This development comes after Tumwesigye contested in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries, where he lost to Dedan Mubangizi.
Mubangizi emerged victorious in the NRM primaries with 8,013 votes, representing 45.9% of the total votes cast. Tumwesigye garnered 6,359 votes, while incumbent MP William Ndori Museveni secured 3,103 votes.
Tumwesigye’s decision to run as an independent candidate stems from his dissatisfaction with the NRM primaries, which he alleged were rigged.
This isn’t Tumwesigye’s first attempt at securing the Buwekula South MP seat. In the 2021 general elections, he contested under the NRM ticket and won it but lost in general elections to William Ndori Museveni.
The Electoral Commission officially nominated Fred Tumwesigye as an independent candidate on October 22, 2025, after he was fully nominated by Ferdinand Murekyezi.
The nomination of Tumwesigye as an independent candidate sets the stage for a competitive race in the constituency.
