Fomer Kenyan Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached from office, has narrowly escaped death after being attacked.

According to Gachagua’s account on his social media platform, the attack occurred after the government withdrew his security detail earlier in the week.

Gachagua stated that the government’s decision to withdraw his security “was to leave me exposed to the kind of attack we have witnessed today.”

He expressed disappointment that the government would take such a step, especially considering his former position as Vice President.

In a detailed account of the attack, Gachagua described how a group of attackers descended upon mourners at a burial ceremony.

“They descended randomly on mourners present and attacked them using the weapons they had,” he wrote. Gachagua was specifically targeted, with his car being attacked with stones and iron bars as he attempted to leave the venue.

“We literally drove out of the venue under a hail of rocks!” Gachagua exclaimed. He expressed outrage over the incident, calling it “a very sad state of affairs and a major low for the state, who were clearly complicit in these actions.”

Gachagua also expressed sympathy for a family who was forced to flee for safety while mourning the loss of a loved one.

“We especially remember the family that had a loved one in a casket, who had to run to safety despite their profound grief,” he wrote.

Despite the attack, Gachagua has vowed not to be intimidated. “We will not be scared away from standing with Kenyans who need us to support them in their moments of need,” he declared.
