A devastating fire outbreak rocked Mityana General Hospital on Monday, October 21, 2025, at around 4:00 pm.
The fire, which broke out at the old maternity building, spread rapidly, destroying property worth millions of shillings.
According to preliminary findings by the police, the fire is suspected to have started from old electrical wiring in the building, which was being used as accommodation for critical hospital staff and a store for old fridges and mattresses.
The building, which housed about 25 people, had only two occupants at the time of the fire, but fortunately, no one was injured.
The territorial police in Mityana, led by the fire brigade response team, quickly responded to the scene and managed to put out the fire.
However, the damage was extensive, with almost all property inside the building burnt to ashes.
The destroyed items include unspecified amounts of money, beddings, TVs, utensils, old fridges, laptops, and other personal belongings.
The police spokesperson for the Wamala region, SP Kawala Racheal, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are still underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
The hospital administration and staff are working to ensure that medical services are not disrupted despite the incident.
The hospital administration promised to provide support and assistance to those affected.
