The United Nations Logo Carries Visual and Symbolic Connotations.
The Nasser International Forum Announces Partnership with the United Nations in Egypt for the Implementation of the Fifth Cohort of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership.
The Nasser International Forum has announced that the fifth cohort of Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership has secured the sponsorship of the United Nations.
Its activities will be held next May under the slogan “Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years Representing the Issues of the Global South,” under the generous patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and with the participation of 150 young men and women from youth leaders with diverse executive specializations, active and influential youth from around the world.
For his part, the anthropological researcher Hassan Ghazaly, founder of the Nasser International Forum, pointed out that the partnership with the United Nations stems from the Egyptian state’s belief in the importance of strengthening the role of the United Nations in facing these challenges through reforming the international structure to ensure more equitable representation of the countries of the South in global decision-making.
This is in addition to strengthening sustainable financing mechanisms to support development projects in developing countries and empowering youth as future leaders who carry a sustainable vision for growth and progress.
He explained that the slogan of the fifth cohort of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership is “Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years Representing the Issues of the Global South,” as Egypt participated in the founding of the United Nations in 1945.
Egypt has also played a pivotal role in supporting the issues of the Global South, adopting a vision that combines its commitment to the principles of international justice and the pursuit of sustainable development in developing countries.
He added that Egypt, over 80 years, has been a model of a state that combines national commitment and global openness, striving to raise the voice of the South and enhance cooperation among its members.
Egypt also actively participated from the beginning in drafting the UN Charter, as Egypt recognized early on the importance of the United Nations as an international platform for defending the issues of developing countries.
The founder of the Nasser International Forum added that Egypt played a pivotal role in the independence of many countries of the Global South in the fifties and sixties of the twentieth century.
Egypt even led intensive efforts to support these countries within the UN organization, even before they gained their independence, by transferring national leaders from Cairo to New York to present their just causes to the United Nations during the General Assembly, believing in the principle of solidarity among the countries of the Global South.
He pointed out that with the development of the role of the United Nations in supporting sustainable development, Egypt has remained at the forefront of countries seeking to promote this path in the Global South, in line with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Egypt has also launched many initiatives, and in recent years, Egypt has focused on activating the principle of South-South cooperation.
Ghazaly further elaborated on the profound symbolic connotations of the official logo launched by the United Nations in celebration of the eightieth anniversary of its founding.
He stated that it carries a highly significant meaning, embodied in the phrase “Hand in hand towards a better future.”
This represents deep meanings and expressive visual connotations that, at their core, convey a strong and urgent call to all countries of the world, its organizations, and its peoples to work side by side and unite efforts to build a brighter, more prosperous, just, and sustainable future for both present and future generations.
He emphasized that this logo does not merely represent a celebration of eight decades since the founding of the UN organization but goes beyond that to closely align in its content and objectives with the “Pact for the Future” adopted by the United Nations.
This pact represents an ambitious vision aimed at renewing and strengthening the role of multilateral institutions in our contemporary world, in addition to moving forward towards achieving a set of key goals by 2025.
He also pointed out that the inspiration for the design of this logo from the basic network of the main United Nations logo was not a mere coincidence but came with a fundamental aim: to maintain a high degree of harmony and consistency with the well-established institutional identity that the international organization enjoys worldwide.
It is worth mentioning that the Nasser Leadership Fellowship was first implemented in 2019 as the first African-African youth fellowship, coinciding with Egypt’s presidency of the African Union under the auspices of the Council of Ministers.
Its aim was to transfer the Egyptian developmental experience tangibly from the ground within the framework of activating the concept of South-South cooperation, in which Egypt plays a leading role.
After its first edition, the fellowship received the generous patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during its second, third, and fourth editions, which were implemented in the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.
The fellowship has expanded to include the continents of Asia, Australia, Latin America, and Europe, in addition to the African continent, which has been the cornerstone since its launch.
