The Uganda Police Force has announced a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Godfrey Wayengera, a finance director at Compassion International Uganda, an NGO.
Wayengera was kidnapped and killed on June 9, 2025, while traveling from Mbale to Kampala. His body was later found dumped in Namulira Village, Mukono District.
According to police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, a joint investigation team comprising police and sister security agencies has arrested five suspects in connection with the murder. The suspects include:
- Tumusiime Ashraf alias Obadiah, 40, residing in Kireka, arrested at Ku Sattu, Kayunga Road, Mukono
- Ssenteza Mike, 40, from Wakiso, arrested at Busawuli Ward, Wakiso District
- Kasolo Fahad, 30, resident of Nabweru and Kireka, arrested on Kamuli Road, Kireka
- Sgt. Mwesige Muhammad alias Jet Lee/Munamakerere, 50, an army deserter from Kagugube, arrested in Wandegeya
- Cpl Mugabe Borban Aspa, an army officer and resident of Kagugube, also arrested in Wandegeya
The police recovered one SAR rifle and military and police uniforms suspected to be used by the gang in carrying out crimes.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects belong to a criminal gang targeting traders and travelers along the Mukono-Katosi road.
ACP Rusoke assured the public that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the matter is brought to its logical conclusion and vowed to pursue all leads to bring those responsible to justice.
Wayengera’s wife, Christine Najjabi, was also kidnapped but was later found in Jinja Misindye, Goma Division, after being dumped there by the suspects.
