Kampala – The High Court Civil Division is set to hear a case in which ABSA Bank is accused of stealing millions of shillings from the bank account of a deceased customer, Dan Kayondo.

Eunice Nabadda Kayondo, the administrator of Kayondo’s estate, has filed a lawsuit against the bank, alleging that it breached the trust she had placed in them by allowing unauthorized withdrawals from account number 0288045860, held at ABSA Bank’s Luwum Street Branch.

According to court documents, the account had a balance of Shs40m when Nabadda took over as administrator.

However, she claims that she was shocked to discover that the balance had dropped to Shs3m, despite not making any withdrawals herself.

Nabadda’s lawyers, led by Ronald Ruhinda, are seeking general damages of Shs100m, special damages for mental anguish and loss, and an order compelling the bank to return the missing Shs40m.

However, ABSA Bank, through their lawyers led by David Mpanga, has denied all allegations, stating that they were not aware of any fraud.
