The nation of Kenya is still grappling with the loss of Raila Amollo Odinga, the veteran politician and former Prime Minister.
President William Ruto paid tribute to Odinga’s remarkable life and legacy, highlighting his unwavering dedication to the people of Kibera Constituency, whom he served as Member of Parliament for 15 years.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, President Ruto reflected on Odinga’s pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s history, particularly in the passage of the 2010 Constitution during his tenure as Prime Minister.
The President described Odinga as a “true patriot and statesman” whose legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
As the country continues to mourn Odinga’s passing, his body lies in state at Parliament, allowing the three arms of government – Executive, Parliament, and the Judiciary – and the nation to pay their respects to a man who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, democracy, and progress.
It is fitting that he lies-in-state at the August House, granting the nation a solemn moment to honor, with reverence and gratitude, the life and legacy of a true patriot and statesman.
Today was declared a public holiday by President Ruto as the nation mourns the passing of the former Prime Minister.
The official state funeral will take place at Nyayo Stadium, where Kenyans will gather to pay their final respects to Raila Odinga.
