Kampala, Uganda – In a latest development, the Kololo Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to three Members of Parliament (MPs) accused of corruption and bribery.

Left-Right Yusuf Mutembuli, Paul Akamba and Cissy Namujju

Cissy Namujju, Yusuf Mutembuli, and Paul Akamba were each granted a UGX 50 million cash bail by the court on 05-08-2024.

In addition to the cash bail, the MPs have been required to deposit their passports in court and provide non-cash sureties of UGX 100 million each.

The stringent bail conditions aim to ensure the MPs’ attendance in court for the duration of the trial.

The prosecution had earlier opposed their bail application, citing concerns about potential interference with investigations and witness tampering.

The three MPs, along with a fourth MP who was denied bail earlier, face charges related to corruption and bribery after allegedly receiving bribes from a foreign company.

The case has sparked widespread attention, highlighting concerns about corruption and accountability within Uganda’s political elite.

The court’s decision to grant bail to the three MPs marks a significant development in the case, which is set to continue in the coming weeks.
