Dr. Kizza Besigye, Uganda’s veteran opposition leader, has been remanded to Luzira Prison again until December 10.
This development comes after Besigye appeared in the General Court Martial, facing charges related to the unlawful possession of firearms.
Besigye, along with his colleague Hajji Obeid Lutale, is accused of holding meetings abroad to solicit funds intended to disrupt national security.
The prosecution alleges that the offenses occurred in Nairobi, Kenya, Athens, Greece, and Geneva, Switzerland.
Besigye has protested the military trial, stating that he is a civilian and should be tried in a civilian court.
Today, one of his lawyers, Eron Kiiza, also protested the military trial in court, reiterating Besigye’s stance that he should not be tried by a military court.
The case has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for Besigye’s release.
The international community has also expressed concern over Besigye’s treatment, urging the Ugandan authorities to respect his human rights.
