In a shocking turn of events, Tugume Albert Cook, brother of Kampala’s Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjula, was abducted at gunpoint and fatally shot on Thursday evening around 8:30 pm.
The incident occurred on Central Road, Ntinda Kigowa road, where Albert operated a mobile money shop.
According to eyewitnesses, thieves targeted Albert as he closed his shop, attempting to grab his bag. As he tried to flee into a nearby corridor, he was shot.
Two others were also injured in the incident: a boda boda rider who chased after the thieves and a woman near the crime scene. Both are receiving medical attention.
This tragic event comes amidst rising tensions in Uganda, following the abduction and arrest of Dr. Kizza Besigye, who was taken from Kenya and brought before a martial court.
The government alleged that he was found with two pistols and was remanded to Luzira prison until December 2.
Luke Oweyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, confirmed the incident on X formerTwitter, stating that Kira Road Police responded to a scene of aggravated robbery in Ntinda, resulting in one fatality and injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, with further details to be released soon.
