Kabarole, Uganda – Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning 28-08-2024 when a devastating road accident occurred at Kaihura along the Fort Portal highway, resulting in the loss of 10 lives.

The 4:00 am crash involved an Isuzu bus belonging to Pokopoko Company (UBE 807T) and a Toyota Hiace (UBR 812G) transporting mourners from Ntungamo to Kyenjojo for a burial.

Preliminary investigations by Traffic Police reveal that driver fatigue and unfamiliarity with the terrain contributed to the tragedy.

“The Toyota Hiace driver had been operating the vehicle continuously without rest for an extended period,” said Michael Kananura, Traffic Police Spokesperson.

“The driver veered out of his lane at Kaihura and collided head-on with the oncoming bus, killing all 10 passengers in the Toyota Hiace, including the driver.”

The bodies have been transported to Kyenjojo Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the vehicles have been towed to the station for further investigation.

Traffic Police are urging drivers to prioritize safety, rest, and familiarization with routes to prevent similar incidents.

“This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety measures and responsible driving practices,” Kananura emphasized.
