In a significant boost to Ugandan football, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has officially approved Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Memorial for international competitions.
The approval, valid until 2027, follows a comprehensive evaluation process.
Previously known as Nakivubo Stadium, the facility underwent extensive renovations under billionaire Hamis Kigundu’s patronage.
The revamped stadium was renamed Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Memorial in honor of its heritage.
FIFA’s approval marks a major milestone for Ugandan football, enabling the country to host more international matches and tournaments.
The stadium’s upgraded facilities meet FIFA’s stringent standards, ensuring a world-class experience for players, officials, and spectators.
“We are thrilled to receive FIFA’s approval,” said Hamis Kigundu, the stadium’s benefactor. “This recognition underscores our commitment to developing Uganda’s football infrastructure.”
The Uganda Football Federation (FUFA) welcomed the news, citing the stadium’s potential to host high-profile matches.
“Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Memorial’s approval boosts our bid to host international tournaments,” said FUFA President, Moses Magogo.
Located in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Memorial is poised to become a hub for regional and international football events.
