Kampala, Uganda – The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially split, with the Katonga faction submitting a formal request to register a new political party, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).

The PFF, which has chosen white and royal blue as its party colors, a phone as its symbol, and “Freedom for All, All for Freedom” as its slogan, is led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Harold Kaija, and Amb Waswa Birigwa.

The faction, which has been at odds with the Najjanankumbi group led by Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, and Jack Sabiti, held a National Delegates Conference at Dr Kiiza Besigye’s Katonga office, where members unanimously agreed to dissolve the FDC and form a new party.

The split comes after rumors of Nandala Mafabi and Amuriat receiving money from President Museveni to destabilize the FDC, which led to failed mediations and ultimately, the formation of the PFF.

A reservation note filed with the Electoral Commission, seen by this publication, reveals that the following members have signed the party registration request:

Former Leader of Opposition Wafula Oguttu, Kamateneti Ingrid Turinawe, Wanda Ronald, Mutesi Anne Marie, Kunihira Proscovia, Nakasolya Jane, Nanyonjo Suzan, Bassima Sarah Ssengendo, Hon Oduman Albert Charles Okello, Opoka Keneth, Hon Ojok B’ Leo

The Electoral Commission has received the party registration request, paving the way for the PFF to become a officially recognized political party.

ADVERT

Amuriat has dismissed the Katonga faction’s resolutions, calling them “comedians” and stating they no longer represent the FDC.

However, sources reveal that most FDC MPs have joined the Katonga faction, leaving Amuriat with only a few legislators.

The split marks the second time the FDC has lost a faction, following the formation of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) in 2018.
