According to the programme, Speaker Among will also officially open a medical camp at Pece Primary School, hand over donated items to the school and Gulu Prisons Primary School, and participate in tree planting and laying of the foundation stone at Kaunda Grounds.

On the same day, she will meet with boda boda riders under the umbrella body of Gulu Boda Boda Riders Association and different market women groups, as part of her engagement with local stakeholders.

However, the event may be disrupted by medical interns who have threatened to storm the plenary in Gulu if their demands for deployment are not met. The interns have been seeking deployment but claim they have been ignored by the Ministry of Health.

“We are coming to Gulu if you don’t pass a supplementary budget to deploy us,” they warned.

The regional parliamentary sitting, scheduled for August 28-29, will be officially opened by President Museveni, who is expected to give his address. Parliament has allocated Shs20b for the regional sittings, with each plenary costing Shs5b.

Despite controversy surrounding the regional parliamentary sittings, including protests in Jinja last week accusing Speaker Among of corruption tendencies, the events are set to proceed as planned.
